The Scandal, Oh the Scandal!

No skin, no drinks, no cigarettes - a truly boring party for nerds, by nerds.

So, according to a lot of Silicon Valley people, some other Silicon Valley people made a scandal last week. Mr Green is of course an active endorser of scandals, especially if they involve parties, but this is a true disappointment. It appears that some web 2.0 folks went to Cyprus, rented a villa and then went partying. They video filmed the party and someone put it online. But instead of recording events involving colorful drinks, suave music and beautiful women, what we get is some sort of musical number.

Surely, the timing by the people from Google, Facebook and Blip.tv could not be worse, deliberately releasing this feverish dot com video last week during one of the worst weeks on the market ever. And then trying to make it "private" just adds to the embarrassment. And yes, I agree, M(r)s Jessica Vascellaro from Wall Street Journal probably should try to avoid being recorded when partying with the animals she is set to investigate.

But Mr Green's take on this scandal is that the real scandal is that the partying is so lame. The people in this video make more money than probably all of the readers of this blog earn per year - together. So where is the champagne? Where are the cigarettes? Women? Or at least men? No live music? No DJ? No pool toys? No regrets? Just nerds of both sexes playing around with a video camera. But I have got to hand it to the director - it is beautifully carried out.

I think Mr Sergey Brin and Mr Larry Page really should talk some sense into M(r)s Brittany Bohnet at Google. Mr Zuckerberg needs to have a serious chat with Aaron Sittig of Facebook. This is not how young, rich people should spend their time off. It is not "googly". It is just... lame.

That is where the true scandal lies.
