Beat the Dealer (Casino-history)

Dr Edward O. Thorp was a ph.d student in mathematics and finance who decided to start to do calculus on Black Jack. "O" stands for Oakley. Dr Thorp published his results in the widely popular book Beat the dealer. In this book Dr Thorp proved mathematically that bank in Black Jack could be beaten by card counting. The bank originally had an advantage of 5 per cent, but by using Dr Thorp's technique the player gets an advantage of 1 per cent.

However, most casinos added a lot of decks to make card counting much harder.

Dr Thorp spent a lot of years at the M.I.T and the University of California and eventually also co-invented the wearable computer. Guess what he was using it for.
